About MBA in HR Concentration

Bill Gates once said: “Take our best 20 people away, and I will tell you that Microsoft would become an unimportant company”. As companies compete in the global marketplace with their products and services, they also compete with each other to attract the best and most talented people. Bill Gates’ statement only rings truer today; as global competition intensifies, companies are going to greater lengths to attract and keep their best performers and value creators. After all, great companies are made by great people.

The MBA in Human Resource Management Concentration at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management represents the best step HRM managers can make in developing their organization’s strongest competitive advantage; their people. Our HRM MBA concentration was recently placed at the top of Eduniveral’s list of the best HRM MBA’s in Eastern Europe.  This concentration is designed for managers and future business professionals that want to learn how to utilize their people to achieve organizational objectives, who wish to learn how to recruit star employees, how to manage change, create a HR strategy, and more.

Courses within this concentration include Recruitment and Selection, Leadership, Management of Change and Human Resources, Performance Measurements and Reward Systems, and others. Classes will involve practical examples of human resource management in practice, video examples, case studies, and will be highly interactive. In this concentration, students will also take part in a computer simulation in which they will take the role of a Human Resource Manager, and make decisions on recruitment, promotions, salary increases, employee training, etc.  Based on the outcomes of their actions, they learn how HRM theory relates to practice. This concentration lasts for two semesters, in the second of which students will have to create a Graduate Thesis.

The lecturers represent a combination of Croatian of foreign experts in the area of Human Resource Management. Study groups are small, as they are in all programs offered by the Zagreb School of Economics and Management, and communication between professors and students is direct.

What students say about ZSEM?

Vitor Duarte

Professors at ZSEM are great since they resort to several innovative teaching methods, and most of the times I was able to learn from their personal experiences on the market. All of these made me feel very interested in the courses I was taking at the time and made me want to go for further knowledge.

Sid Eshuis

I like best that it's a small school and also the teaching style - during lectures and seminars we work on real case studies. There's not too much theory and everything is very practice oriented, which is very different from my university back home.

Ana Šimić

Studying at ZSEM has helped me get into the swing of things at my workplace more easily and quickly while my superiors are very often surprised by the scope and quality of the knowledge that I have acquired.

Matea Sokolar

From the beginning I had very high expectations about the MBA program at ZSEM, including both the subject courses and the professors. The thing that I liked the most was the way of teaching, especially from the international professors who encourage each lecture to have discussions and where students are encouraged to give their opinions. I also liked that the professors gave real life examples in class. Another thing that I liked about the program is that in both semesters, there were many international students so I had the opportunity to make friends from all over the world.
